Travel day
Everything packed, everything cleaned at The Ark and The Dove, ready for guests while I’m gone. Still have a bit of work to do on the video. I arrive at the airport in plenty of time.

At time of boarding they announce a gate change. Everyone gets to the new gate and they announce another gate change, back near the first gate – and then we wait. First the delay is for the cleaners, then it’s waiting for catering. They decided to board us even though the catering trucks had yet to come. We eventually took off after a 2 hour delay, meaning we would arrive closer to 12noon than the 9:30am original time. Good thing I decided not to make the trek to Cornwall!

In all of this, my peace was never disturbed. I wondered if it was simply because I was on holiday (rather than having a deadline or a meeting to get to). Others around me were complaining to each other but my heart was at rest. I realize that this is generally my perspective when I travel: why get stressed about things out of my control. It has made traveling much more peaceful, and even joyful for me. It also gives me an opportunity to intercede for those around me.

The question to be pondered: how can I apply this perspective to the rest of my life (and why don’t I). I never realized how applicable the Serenity Prayer is: Lord, help me accept the things I cannot change. The courage to change the things I can. And the wisdom to know the difference. Amen!
